About
Human Nature Projects Canada
Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada is a federally registered, youth-led not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing environmental literacy by raising awareness about current environmental issues to inspire meaningful and equitable environmental action. HNP Canada uses various events and initiatives to further this goal, with the long-term vision of creating a global climate-resilient community of environmentalists that champions increased environmental action by acting locally but thinking globally. To date, HNP Canada has involved 10,000+ youth in environmental education, protection, conservation, and restoration globally.
Our Mission
Our mission is to increase environmental literacy by raising awareness about current environmental issues to inspire meaningful and equitable action.
Our Vision
We hope to build a global climate-resilient community of environmentalists that champions for increased environmental action by acting locally but thinking globally.
Our Values
At Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada, our values serve as the foundation of our organization. They guide our decisions, define our culture, and direct our collective effort toward advancing a more sustainable and equitable world. Built on this foundation, HNP Canada remains committed to driving lasting impact by strengthening communities, advancing environmental responsibility, and upholding our commitment to sustainability.
UNITY
The goal of our organization is big, and requires all hands on deck. We welcome all, regardless of background or experience.
Community
We believe in the power of mobilizing our community and focusing on grassroots efforts for increased environmental stewardship, protection, and restoration.
Opportunity
Everyone who is a part of our organization is connected with countless opportunities to grow, develop, and learn. It is our core belief that opportunities create leaders.
Diversity
It is our belief that diversity is our biggest strength. People from different backgrounds and lived experiences bring unique perspectives and points of views that are vital in the fight for a sustainable future for all.
Education
Actions taken without awareness are always in vain which is why we believe that education is the catalyst to change. By educating our local communities about the impacts of the climate crisis, we can develop more sustainable policies and practices.
Social Determinant of Health
We believe that the climate crisis is a health crisis and that it is the biggest health crisis of the 21st century.
Our Story
Founded in October 2020 by three students, Muhammed Ansar, Srija Das, and Theo Liu, HNP Canada started as an idea that did not feel big at the time. As youth living in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the three of them noticed that they were somewhat learning about climate change and its impacts in classrooms, but something still felt missing. There were always facts, theories, and statistics but there was rarely ever space to take action and engage meaningfully with communities. This realization was the foundation for what is now HNP Canada.
What started as conversations quickly turned into action bringing people together, starting initiatives, and creating opportunities for others to get involved. Over time, HNP Canada became more than just an idea; it became a community of people who care deeply and want to make a difference. Looking back, it’s grown far beyond what they imagined, but at its core, it is still about that same goal: giving people a space to learn about environmental challenges from an intersectional lens, connect with communities, and take meaningful environmental action together.
“We co-founded HNP Canada to inspire a generation of environmental leaders who think globally but act locally. Environmental education should not end with awareness; instead, we believe that it should spark action, build community, and create lasting impact for both people and the planet”
- Muhammad and Srija
