Event Details

In June 2022, Human Nature Projects (HNP) Canada joined forces with Toronto Nature Stewards (TNS) for a critical environmental cleanup at the Middle Mill Area. Over 60 dedicated volunteers participated, successfully removing invasive plants like dog-strangling vine and garlic mustard. This collaborative effort was vital in safeguarding numerous habitats, protecting local wildlife, and preserving native plant species within the area.

This work directly combats the pervasive threat of invasive species, which are non-native organisms introduced to new environments where they lack natural predators. Their unchecked spread leads to significant harm across various fronts: they directly compete with native plants for essential resources and territory, ultimately causing a loss of biodiversity. Beyond ecological damage, invasive species also impact human health by potentially exposing us to new diseases or acting as carriers for existing ones, thus threatening our well-being, cultural connection to nature, and the overall health of our ecosystems.
