Annual Earth Day Competition
The Earth Day Competition (EDC) is a signature HNP Canada initiative, engaging youth across Ontario and Canada to take meaningful environmental action in their schools.

Since its launch, it has united students and environmental councils and clubs to turn environmental education into real-world impact through three streams:
-
Community Cleanup: Students restore local spaces.
-
Pledge to Go Green: Students lead school-wide sustainability pledges.
-
Carbon Reduction Challenge: Using the Commit2Act platform, students log eco-friendly actions and track their reductions in their CO2 emissions to create collective impact.
HNP Canada’s sponsorship from TakingITGlobal provides individuals with the Commit2Act platform to be used to measure and showcase reductions in CO2 emissions. Originally provincial in 2024, EDC expanded nationally in 2025, with an award ceremony celebrating youth leadership, projects, and mentorship opportunities. More than a competition, EDC fosters environmental literacy, teamwork, and leadership, equipping youth to advocate for change, build sustainable habits, and strengthen their communities. The Commit2Act platform allows participants to record sustainable actions, such as walking, using reusable water bottles etc., to track the amount of CO2 they have collectively saved. Through this innovative tool and the broader competition, EDC has grown into a national competition that amplifies youth voices and inspires collaboration, showing that when young people act together, they can drive meaningful progress toward a sustainable future.

Testimonials: Here Is What Our Community Has To Say...
“Through planning this volunteer activity, I realized that although the environment looks very clean, there is still a lot of garbage thrown everywhere, which will affect the health and sustainability of the environment. The activity of picking up garbage also made the volunteers understand the importance of protecting the environment. Protecting the environment is very important. I will pay more attention to the classification of garbage and use more environmentally friendly products to reduce the output of garbage, and call on my family members around me to do the same.” - Yichen Xie (3rd Place Winner for EDC 2025; Community Cleanup Stream)
“My eco team and I hosted a banner signing booth where we collected over 50 signatures from students who were eager to pledge to reduce their carbon emissions. We also had many more students stop by to learn about our cause. Overall, participating in this activity allowed us as a student council to learn about the power of collective action in addressing the climate crisis.” - Audy Noor (2nd Place Winner for EDC 2024; Pledge To Go Green Stream)
“I greatly enjoyed participating and working with both HNP as well as Commit2Act in the fight against climate change. HNP created a welcoming and informative space throughout my experience in the Earth Day competition 2024 and I plan to continue to work with HNP in the future.” - Scythe Jayamohanaraja (1st Place Winner for EDC 2024; Carbon Reduction Challenge Stream)
